With a particular concentrate on exhibitions of self-taught and visionary artists, Cavin-Morris has also mounted exhibits by contemporary ceramicists and has introduced indigenous artworks from Africa, Asia, the South Pacific and the Americas. By fully integrating Native American art into its American and modern art galleries, the Joslyn Art Museum achieves a milestone for mainstream American art museums. Recruited by Rondeau, the former chair of the museum’s department of recent and modern Picture of Arts art, who was elevated to helm the Art Institute in 2016, the architects’ reimagining has largely been confined to interior initiatives. Work thus far consists of an ongoing remodeling of the Michigan Avenue lobby and a number of other redesigned gallery spaces, Rondeau said. Founded in 2011 in Brooklyn, the gallery recently expanded its outpost in Los Angeles, and likewise operates an area on the Bowery in New York.
